A large Victorian period 'Primrose League Decoration of the Grand Star Second Grade', unmarked star, cut in brilliant silver facets, gilt Garter surmounted by an Imperial Crown and primrose centre. Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings, complete with detachable full length neck ribbon, perfect enamel and contained in original velvet lined fitted case with maker's details to the inside "By Appointment To The Queen" "T&J Bragg Medals Birmingham, London 1862 1872 1884" this now with age wear.

A rare early 'Primrose League Shield of Service gilt and enamel medal', the reverse with maker's details "W.O.Lewis (Badges) Ltd B'Ham". Very good condition, retaining original blue silk ribbon and enamelled suspension bar with pin fittings and complete with its original velvet lined fitted presentation case with corresponding maker's details to the inside lid, this with very minor wear.

Primrose League Full Dress Knight or Dame of the League, Shropshire President & Past President Badge.

A rare original Victorian 'Primrose League Full Dress Knight or Dame of the League badge', gilt primrose floral wreath surmounted by a Crown and 'PL' monogram with Latin motto of the League 'Imperium Et Libertas' (Empire and liberty) mounted on an unmarked silver backing (dispensed with after 1888) the reverse bearing a Diamond Registered Mark which gives a patent date '11th December 1883', complete with purple silk ribbon in which is woven in yellow the word "Past" and safety pin fitting suspension. Very good condition.
Overall Height 108mm.
Accompanying this badge is a woven red silk ribbed ribbon with gold bullion embroidery bearing a blue shield with "the loggerheads" three leopards faces and a 'President' title scroll below, white leather backing and safety pin fitting. Very good condition, leather backing fragile.

A good original post 1886 Victorian 'Primrose League Dame's Full Dress gilt badge', the reverse with maker's details "T&JB" (T&J Bragg Birmingham) and registered, design and patent number "Rd 33410" (1885). Very good mint condition, original plain primrose colour silk ribbon and suspension bar with single pin fitting and complete with original case with corresponding maker's details to the inside lid, this with minor wear.
Overall Height of Badge 77mm.

In 1883 Lord Randolph Churchill father of Winston Churchill, Sir Henry Drummond Wolff, Sir Alfred Slade and Sir John Gorst formed this Conservative backed league to promote not only the party also National Patriotism and the unity of the British Empire. The motto of the League became Imperium et Libertas", this taken from the famous speech delivered by Benjamin Disraeli the Earl of Beaconsfield in 1879.
