Primrose League Official Badges on Manufacturer W.O.Lewis Display Card.

A rare display card with six gilt and enamel Primrose League buttonhole badges, the reverse impressed "Primrose League Official Badge", the card with details "Registered" "Manufactured Specially For The Primrose League" "W.O.Lewis, Medallist & Jeweller, Birmingham". Badges in very good condition, card with tear around bottom right badge.

In 1883 Lord Randolph Churchill father of Winston Churchill, Sir Henry Drummond Wolff, Sir Alfred Slade and Sir John Gorst formed this Conservative backed league to promote not only the party also National Patriotism and the unity of the British Empire. The motto of the League became Imperium et Libertas", this taken from the famous speech delivered by Benjamin Disraeli the Earl of Beaconsfield in 1879.

A very scarce cased 'Primrose League Honorary Knight of the League badge'; gilt and enamel example bearing the league's Latin motto 'Imperium Et Libertas' (Empire and liberty) and incorporating the Cross of St George and the Cross of St Andrew, the reverse with maker's details "T&JB" (T&J Bragg Birmingham). Very good condition, retaining original buttonhole stud fitting, enamel perfect, contained in its original red velvet lined fitted presentation case, with name to the inside lid "By Appointmentan" "T&J Bragg Birmingham". The motto of the 'Primrose League' was "For God, King and Country". The League was formed in 1883 to maintain Religion, the Constitution and the British Empire. Complete with original case with corresponding maker's details to the inside lid, this with minor wear.

A fine scarce gilt heart shaped medal, surmounted by lion’s mask suspension ring, bearing blue enamel legend "Junior Branch Primrose League”, crimson enamel central ‘J’.
