A small round gilt badge with blue enamel H.G and red enamel crown. Very good condition, original buttonhole fitting, no damage to the enamel.

Formed in 1940, from the recently raised Local Defence Volunteers (LDV), to counter the threat of invasion from German airborne and seaborne troops (Hitler's "Operation Sea Lion").

A good early Second War silver plate and red enamel badge, the reverse with maker's details "Thomas Fattorini Ltd Regent St. Birmingham". Good condition, original buttonhole fitting, no damage to the enamel, minor wear to plating.

The Auxiliary Fire Service was formed in 1938 from unpaid part-time volunteers to supplement the work of the local Fire Brigade units in the time of emergency, it was superseded in 1941 by the National Fire Service, reformed again in 1948 alongside of the Civil Defence Corps and finally disbanded in 1968.
