Birmingham Asylums Committee 1926 Qualification Nursing Hospital Badge.

A scarce original 'Medico-Psychological medal' in the form of a unmarked silver cross, three arms embossed with 'Union Spray' representing the unity of England, Scotland and Ireland, a Rose, Thistle and Shamrock the lower arm engraved "December 1926; the central disc depicting the City of Birmingham Coat of Arms granted in 1889. The reverse inscribed in relief "Presented By The Birmingham Asylums Committee To Jenny Hennessy (engraved) For Gaining Certificate Of Proficiency In Nursing Of The Medico-Psychological Association Of Great Britain & Ireland". WW1 Queen Mary's Needlework Guild, Q.M.N.G Worker's Badge with 1914 -1918 War Service Bars.

A scarce original First World War period 'Queen Mary's Needlework Guild worker's badge'; gilt and enamel example bearing war service bars from 1914 right through to 1918. Very good condition, complete with original silk ribbon with Q.M.N.G suspension bar with original pin fittings, enamel perfect.

The Queen Mary's Needlework Guild came into being after just a few days into the Great War, when Queen Mary's issued a letter on the 4th August 1914 through the Press, to the Women of the Empire asking that it might be rendered "To alleviate all distress occasioned by the War!" which was the purpose of the guild to provide comforts and create articles of clothing and surgical equipment as well as other gifts to the troops fighting for King and Country at home and abroad.

A scarce Second World War period 'American Red Cross Great Britain chromium plated enamel badge', the reverse with maker's details "Thomas Fattorini Ltd Regent St Birmingham". Good condition, retaining original pin fittings, no damage to the enamel, minor flaw to chromium plating at the 4 o'clock position.

Worn by British volunteer staff who worked in the Canteens of the American Red Cross clubs in Great Britain, many of whom were WVS members.

WW1 Zeppelin L31 Shot Down Potters Bar Hertfordshire 1916, Swastika Pendant Handcrafted from Salvaged Aluminum.

A scarce original piece of handcrafted aluminum in the form of a swastika commemorating the 'Zeppelin L31' which came down over Oakmere Park, Hertfordshire on 1st October 1916 entire crew were killed including commander Lieutenant Heinrich Mathy. Inscribed back and front "L31" "Potters Bar 1.10.16". Good condition, complete with brass suspension ring, minor corrosion to one side.

WWI Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service QAIMNS Male Nurse Bronze Medal Badge.

A rare full size bronze example, similar design to the silver medal worn by female nurses, but awarded and worn by qualified male nurses, who usually held the rank of Sergeant. Vey good condition, retaining QAIMNS RESERVE silk ribbon and suspension bar with pin fittings.
Medal Height 53mm.
Overall Height approx 96mm.

RAMC Orders Vol 10 June 1908:
Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service (Bronze Badge) it has been decided that except in very special cases the claims of non-commissioned Officers and men to retain the honourable distinction upon passing to the Reserve will not be favourably considered unless they have at least four years service as members of QAIMNS.

Medical History of the War.

The trained personnel for nursing services was still further increased by enrolling in the QAIMNS a nursing section of men of the RAMC who were specially trained by the QAIMNS nursing sisters matrons, and medical Officers, had gone through a period of probation were successful in examinations of certificate in nursing had completed three years training and were in other respects suitable. Men of the RAMC were also eligible for special training as masseurs and as attendants in operating rooms and in skiagraphy and electro-therapeutics.

'Colonial Nursing Association 1896' Bronze Nurses Hospital Badge.

A very scarce original pre 1919 'Colonial Nursing Association bronze nurses badge, the solid centre depicting a seated 'Britannia' within an oval title surround, suspended from an ornate oak leaf decorated bar. Very good condition, retaining original pin fittings.

Founded in 1896 by Lady Piggott as the 'Colonial Nursing Association' to provide trained nurses for the British Colonies and the small British communities abroad. Renamed the 'Overseas Nursing Association' in 1919. Closed on 1 December 1966.
