'Masonic Million Memorial Fund Jewel' Birmingham 1928 Hallmarked Silver Medal.

A scarce original 'Masonic Million Memorial Fund Jewel' the reverse impressed with Birmingham silver hallmarks for 1928, maker's details "J.R.G&S" (J.R.Gaunt & Son) and inscribed "Bro. O.E.Winter. No.3920". Very good condition, complete with original blue silk ribbon with pin fittings, colour now a little faded.
Height 91mm.

The Jewel designed by Bro.Cyril Saunders Spaceman, R.B.A, R.M.A, is in a form symboliizing Sacrifice, with a perfect square at the four ends, on the left and right squares being the dates 1914-1918, the years in which the supreme sacrifice was made. Between these is a winged figure of Peace presenting the representation of a Temple with special Masonic allusions in Pillars, Porch and Steps. The medal is suspended by the Square and Compasses attached to a riband, the whole thus symbolizing the Craft's gift of a new Temple in memory of those Brethren who gave all for King and Country, Peace with Victory, Liberty with Brotherhood.

Within laurel sprays surmounted by crossed Royal Standard and Union Flag, resting on bi-part blue enamel scroll with lyre between, an oval vignette depicting hand painted galleon sailing ship, the reverse impressed with London silver hallmarks for 1903 and maker's details "G.K&S" (George Kenning & Son.). Very good condition, complete with original silk ribbon with Britannia figural and suspension bar with single pin fitting, enamel with small chip to left title otherwise perfect, complete with original gilt finish, an excellent example.

'Masonic Million Memorial Fund Jewel' Silver Hallmarked 1921 with Leaflet & Case of Issue.

A scarce original 'Masonic Million Memorial Fund Jewel' housed in original card box with leaflet bearing 'Description of Commemorative Jewel' seen below. The reverse impressed with London silver hallmarks for 1921, maker's details "A.G.W" and inscribed "Bro. A.H.Tate. No.974". Excellent condition, complete with original silk ribbon with pin fittings, box with split corners and age wear, this bearing paper label and ink inscription "Myrtle Villa Bingley"

'Mr Arthur Henry Tate of Myrtle Villa, Bingley, Yorkshire' was a wool Broker by trade, he died on Boxing Day 1924. He also had a residence in Bradford.

(Royal Masonic Hospital), the reverse impressed with Birmingham silver hallmarks for 1964 and maker's details "T.K&S" (Toye, Kenning and Spencer).
