The British Herdsmens Club 1934 Hm silver badge by Mappin & Webb

A scarce original circa 1934 period fine quality 'The British Herdsmen's Club members badge'; well designed example in the form of a blue enamel title circlet, the centre bearing four embossed ovals containing the head of a sheep, cow, horse and pig; the reverse impressed with Birmingham silver hallmarks for 1934 and maker's details 'MN&WB' (Mappin & Webb London). Very good condition, complete with original buttonhole lapel fitting, no damage to the enamel.
Diameter 23mm.
The British Herdsmen's Club membership list was made up of herdsmen, stud-grooms and shepherds, it produced an interesting annual periodical called 'The British Herdsmen's Journal' and had 524 paid-up members in 1935. The club would look after the welfare of its members in sickness and unemployment.
